Halston has become a deplorable complex.
And what's more despicable is that they automate responses to their reviews...the comment on my review is from a bot, not a human. Unbelievable.
To management and interested parties that see this:
Cons:
-My building's elevator has been broken for over 200 days. That's more than half of the lease. We've been given no kick backs, no discounts, no assistance with moving services. We're simply told "sorry for the inconvenience".
-The apartment gates are always broken. Security is an afterthought.
-None of the front entry doors to the buildings work.
-Tenants recklessly speed through the complex.
-The stairwells are filthy.
-The parking garage routinely has sewer leaks.
-The washing machines have perpetual issues. Flooding and incomplete washes are common.
-Pet owners don't clean up after their pets.
-The gym's equipment is spotty and often inoperable.
-Things are routinely stolen out of the parcel lockers.
-General maintenance is poor. Walk through the complex, and you will find improperly torqued door hinges, broken stairs, patched up vinyl flooring. None of it is quality work.
-I've witnessed a shooting, a number of fights, and once prevented a sexual assault from happening near the complex.
-Roaches are abundant.
-Predatory towing companies come at will and steal cars often.
Pros:
It's close to a number of convenient stores.
-The parking garage, while in poor condition, provides shelter from bad weather.
-The office staff is generally pleasant on the phone, despite the fact their actions reflect a lack of genuine concern for the livelihood of tenants.

I lived here 4 years, went without heat during the winter the freeze had power heater didnt work, went with AC for two weeks during thr summer had to have code compliance come out twice. The ceiling started to crack due to foundation and the front door wouldn't close. They patched the cracks but never painted but ended up billing me for it when I left.

I wanted to share my experience applying for an apartment at this property. Initially, the staff seemed welcoming and eager to earn my business. I was given a tour, and everything seemed promising. However, when I submitted my application, things took an unexpected and distressing turn.
During the application process, it was discovered that I was a victim of identity theft. There was a record of a lease with an outstanding balance at a property I had never lived at. The documentation showed an old driver’s license I had lost and a Social Security number that wasn’t mine, yet someone was still able to lease an apartment using that information. I was forced to file a police report, which was an extremely traumatic experience, especially because I work in the mortgage industry where creditworthiness is critical to both my profession and my upcoming plans to purchase a home.
Despite providing documentation and clarification that I was a victim of identity theft, my application was denied. The leasing agent, Amaryllis, said she would escalate it for review, but I didn’t hear back for over a week. I only found out the result by chance when I checked my spam folder and saw a denial notice, no one followed up with me directly.
While I understand that properties must protect themselves, I believe apartment communities need much better training in how to handle identity theft cases. This is a growing issue in the U.S., and dismissing victims without any attempt at compassion, communication, or problem-solving is not acceptable. The complex where the fraud occurred refused to share information with me, even as a victim, and this property treated me more like a liability than someone who needed support.
What was especially disappointing is that none of my current housing history, like my on-time rent payments at a property just around the corner, was taken into account. I’ve never had a late payment, and this incident doesn’t even appear on my credit report.
Ironically, I was later approved at another property. That team understood how damaging identity theft can be, and after I provided proof of where I actually lived during the fraudulent lease period, they were willing to work with me. That is what empathy and proper training look like.
This review isn’t just about my application being denied, it’s about how I was treated during a deeply vulnerable moment. Based on my experience and reading other reviews, it seems this property is enthusiastic when prospecting new tenants but quick to disengage when problems arise. Residents and applicants deserve more than surface-level customer service. I hope management takes this as an opportunity to reevaluate their training and policies around fraud and customer care.
