Welcome to “Luxury Living” at Self Deception Estates Do you ever dream about living in Austin’s famous SoCo district, surrounded by chic boutiques, mouthwatering restaurants, and hipster vibes—only to wake up in a cold sweat to the roaring sound of a twelve-lane interstate and a construction crew auditioning for “Extreme Makeover: Highway Edition”? If so, boy, do I have the apartment complex for you! Located In Vibrant SoCo! According to the apartment’s ad, this place is “at Soco” (South Congress), Austin’s pedestrian paradise full of quirky shops, brunch spots, and that “I Love You So Much” mural. In reality, your actual neighbors are not the cool, local boutiques or gourmet coffee shops, but America’s finest: stores where you can you cash a paycheck, buy a burner phone, and get a payday loan without ever moving your car from a pothole so deep it has its own Instagram account! These shops aren’t just low-brow—they’re digging toward the earth’s mantle. On the East Side of Highway Excitement! The leasing office boasts, Just minutes from South Congress!, which is technically true—as long as you measure time in the way dogs do, and ignore the fact that it’s actually a quicker drive or walk to Pleasant Valley Road, an area best described as “aspiring not to be famous.” You’d have an easier time Ubering to San Antonio before spotting a quaint Austin eatery out your window. “Resort-Inspired Pools” Imagine relaxing by the pool, cocktail in hand—just don’t actually imagine this pool. The “resort-inspired” oasis could inspire a resort... to invest in a hazmat team. The pools are shallow, suspiciously opaque, and so tiny that if you dip your toes in, you’ll likely touch both sides at once. The only infinity featured here is the amount of time the pool gate will stay broken, especially after a chunk of it fell off in my hand. (Pro tip: tetanus shots are a fun summer activity.) “Pet Friendly!” Bring your dog and you can both enjoy a relaxing walk—deep into the property’s water retention basins, which double as canine landfills and moisture sinks after each rainstorm.
